Pointe Mouillee State Game Area
This area is rich with wildlife and renowned for outstanding bird watching and high quality duck hunting. Named “Pointe Mouillee,” or “Wet Point,” by French fur traders, the marsh once covered the Huron River delta. Native Americans, French trappers, and settlers depended on its rich harvest of muskrats, waterfowl, and plant resources. In 1875, the Pointe Mouillee Shooting Club purchased most of the marsh. After World War II, the property was transferred to the State of Michigan. It is managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Reources.
